My Security Indicator light (red car with key icon) has begun flashing all the time when the car is turned off. It stops flashing (disappears) when the car is started. I've had the car for just a few days (2009 Mazda6 SGrand Touring), but I don't recall the light flashing before this evening. I've stopped/started the car a couple of times to try to reset the indicator, but it still flashes. Will this run down my battery, and will I have to drive the 60 miles to the dealer to have it reset? GRRRRRR. Love the car, but really don't need a time-consuming headache like this. Insight would be appreciated. (Posts regarding older Mazdas indicate that the flashing is normal--a passive theft deterrent. But like I said, I don't remember the flashing before...

It is normal for the light to flash when the key is not in the car. It indicates that the passive theft deterrent system is active. This is 100% normal and will not run the battery down.
I've had mine parked for over a week already and it does not run it down at all.

The flashing is 100% NORMAL. and will not run out your battery.
i remember someone did the math. for that LED light to be flashing and drain your battery
it would take something like 104 years of continous flashing.
you(r car) would be long gone by then.

Thanks a million for the responses. I was able to talk to the dealer, and they confirmed that the light is supposed to blink. I don't know why I owned the car for three days before noticing it...but I did:-) Thanks, again, for the (correct) answers.
