Hi, on the overhead console, there is a small blue light. I thought at first that it was ON when my bluetooth radio/phone was connected but even after I turn the phone off, the light is still ON. The manual doesn't say what that light is for. Anybody knows?

Thanks.

Update: I just took my car for lunch and noticed the light turns on with the running lights so looks like it's just and 'ambient' light...

It's basically mood lighting for the inside of the vehicle. Alot of newer vehicles have it, like the Honda Accord.

Yeah, it highlights the blue hue of the center console beverage compartment lid.

That's what I thought too and would have made sense but it simply turns on with the headlights, nothing more, nothing less. Gives a nice glow to the center console at night though

You're right. I paid more attention to it and noticed the same...it only comes on when the headlights come on. Seems a little "over the top" just to have a useless blue light there, but I guess it does give a nice glow. Offsets all that red nicely :P

I found it a couple days after I got mine. I was driving home from work and needed something in the cup holder. I looked down and noticed...I could see it...and in the dark too! lol
I looked at the dash for a minute, trying to find out what was lighting the area in blue but everything around the AC controls is red. Finally found the blue light when I look straight up at it and lost my night vision. lol

The purpose of the blue light is to give enough light to see the conslole area without illuminating the entire front seat area. It works like a blacklight too, I work in construction and have to wear the high visibility yellow shirts and they glow under the light. Kind of cool.

My 2 cents:

it lets you know where the dome light switches relative positions are, and it just happens to reflect right off the chrome shifter knob, maybe so you know where it is too?

Maybe customers were having problems finding the shiter and dome lights in the dark on the 1st Gen? :P

I just leave the cover up on the shiter and aim for the dark spot........
