[attachmentid=5114]Hi guys,

I recently ordered this fog light (picture) from ebay and had it fitted in the front stock bumper. Cosmetically, I love it. The carbon fibre trimming and the grill makes the 6 looks more aggressive and sporty.

My problem.
Turning it on, I realise that it doesn't have the reflector of a fog lamp. Fog lamps are suppose to produce a flat, wide beam with a sharp cut off just below the low beam. Thus illluminating the road in front and surrounding areas, while not interfering with the vision of oncoming traffic.

These 'stupid' fog lamps light up like a christmas tree, with scattered lights everywhere. Although not as strong as the high beam, can still produce some glare to others. These lamps have a smooth parabolic reflector and clear lens, which doesn't direct light in a fixed direction.

I'm not the kind of driver who likes to shine all my lights when I'm driving. But would like to have a pair of functional fog lamps when driving in foggy/bad weather conditions. With the current scattered lights I'm experiencing, it will probably produce more glare, rather than just illuminating the road under the fog.

My Question (finally....)
Does anyone know how to convert these lamps into functional REAL fog lamps, without having to replace the carbon fibre housing? (as in get another model off ebay and hope for the best). Does anyone here knows of any good auto electrician who can fit a fog lamp into the existing housing? It's about 6.5cm in diameter.

I live in Ringwood, just off Maroondah Hwy, if that helps.

Thanks heaps....

Sorry, I can't help you regarding the conversion from driving to fog. I would have thought that you could just get a replacement globe.

But just wondering how much the install set you back?
Did you get an auto electrician to fit them for you?

I was thinking about getting a set of these (or similar) off Ebay as well.

Cheers. Look forward to the results. One of the other people in the board bent some aluminium and then mounted the lights on this. Looked pretty good.

$160 for the install is not too bad.

I like the ones Warren installed on his car. But these are pretty expensive:

How expensive roughly? I've been after a set of fogs that fit my car's (non-sport front bumper) for ages!

I believe these are the ones that Warren got..

Definitely looks more solid and well-built than what I've got. If my mod fails, I'll probably go for these. Also, look closely, there's a sheild over the bulb to block off the extra glare.

Email Warren if in doubt.

Edit... the URL not working. Go to ebay and type Mazda 6 OEM fog lights

I'm not so sure...the ebay posting says that it is for sports only in the US. That means cars with the body kit. They do vary slightly I believe.

According to this post:

http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=29544

They were around $300 shipped.

Yeah it did say Sports package... missed that, sorry The ones for the Euro bumper are more "square-ish".

You can email Warren and ask him.

Otherwise you can check these out.

no guarantees... I am a bit disappointed with the projector that came with mine.

Still waiting for my Hellas Optilux to arrive. Will post pictures once I've done it.

The Hella Optilux 1002 Projection Lense Fog arrived this morning. 3 hours and it's all done. So, I basically replaced the old blue lense (cracked after 2 days due to heat), with the Hellas. Good heavy duty built, yellow flat/wide beam. And the chrome silver goes with the headlights.
