hey fellow Mazda6ers, how goes it?

my brother just got his license and one mazda6 isnt enough to go around between me, my mum and him. fortunately for us however, my dad's colleague is selling his mk1 RenaultSport Clio 172. its the mk1 RCS, one of the original 85 that arrived in Australia.

thats not the exact car, but that is showing the mk1 clio.

the reason i'm talkin about the car here is that i want to ask for an OBJECTIVE opinion regarding this car. and i know this is the perfect place to find it because i know that you are all well-informed and experienced motoring enthusiasts.

if you have driven the RSC 172/182 before, please let me know how it compares to the 6. i dont want to be disappointed with a RSC, because the 6 does set the bar pretty high.

thanks in advance.

Bloody hell

Hey alex,

Thats the exact model im looking at buying, deciding between another M6 or a 2001 clio sport 172.

The clio kick ass, 0-100 in under 7 secs, and awesome handling. Side airbags and good safety features.

I started a topic in aussie frogs about this subject a few weeks ago:

Great car. my cousin over in the UK has twwo of them- both the shape you are looking at and the current one...

I got to drive the older one for two weeks when i was visitng...

The car handles very well and is a lot of fun in the wet and dry- very surefooted. It's a little noisy but then its small car built to a price point... only thing is to be sure to change the brake discs over for some aftermarket items like DBAs or similar- the originals wear like crazy! Also check for dodgy shift feel... have fun!

hey thanks for the info guys. i've signed up to OzRenaultSport forum to get the biz on the Clio and it seems like they reckon the mk1 is better than mk2 as well.

what i really wnat to know is how the RSC would stack up against the 6 for handling. any experience?

I only had a chnace to drive the clios back to back with my other cousins turbo diesel 6 wagon... so no contest there- clio beats it hands down...

The Clio is a corner carving machine tho... i found it was able to make its way through the twisties a lot faster than anything with little power really has any right too... it was almost as much fun as my F4i

but ive gotta say the mark 1 sport has an interior blander and ricier than a SATRIA GTI

its gunna be a close one between the clio and the 6 for me...i the the 6 still has it for unbeatable style as well as top line handling.

Alex...how much are u looking at spending for this clio on offer?

ive been told 20k for one is over priced...it was advertised with 80k

under 20k for a unbeatable hatch? ill pay that

the clio in question is asking $18,000. it belongs to one of my dad's colleagues. he's selling his Clio and his BMW 5-series for a SLK. the Clio's is weekend of weekend cars and he sees not point in keeping it. lucky us. its got an aftermarket sunroof fitted to it too! not sure how many K's its got on the dail, but i suspect it would be less than average seeing as he doesnt really use it.

the clio is in the shop right now getting its bum replaced because i think he backed it into a pole some time back, and also some touch-up work is being done. hopefully he'll get it back this week so we can test drive it this weekend. fingers crossed.

sound like a good deal?
