This is probably a dumb question as I'm not much of a DIYer, but here it goes anyway...
My 2007 6i Grand Touring is due for a transmission fluid flush/refill. I've never done this before, mostly because I've never kept a car this long. I really don't have the time, patience, or know-how to do it myself, but I couldn't believe when my dealer told me it would be almost $200 to flush and refill the fluid. Is this the going rate for this service? I know that I'm getting hosed regardless when I could save money by doing it myself, but like I said, I really don't have the time and I don't want to screw anything up on my car. Also, since I'm not exactly happy with any of the dealers in my area, is this something I could take to a reputable shop, or should I stick with a Mazda dealer for this service? Thanks in advance for any help/advice/snarky commments.

That is pretty much the price you'll pay. Other places like Midas will do the job for a few dollars cheaper, however not much of a difference.

I checked with my nearest Mazda dealer and ATX service is $199. I also checked with a local repair shop, and their quote was $119.99 for conventional fluid and $179.99 for special types of transmission fluid. If I remember what I've read here before correctly, I think my car would require the latter, so with a coupon there's really no difference between the repair shop and the Mazda dealer. (So, I might as well go with the Mazda dealer in this case.)
Thanks for the quick replies.

I've got an 06 3.0 ATX 6speed, and I was just wondering today when I have to change the fluid? When did you need to do yours?

My dealer charged me 160.
fireworks, it depends on miles and your driving. Some go close to 50k w/o a problem, yet mine was really dark at 29k. so there is only a ballpark, not an exact mileage.

My local Shops (valvoline, NTB, AAMCO) all agreed to do it for around $109-129. Valvoline was using Maxlife, NTB and AAMCO were going to use Castrol Import. Both fluids are listed for Mazda M-V Spec.
I went with the valvoline and like it so far.
