Hey guys

I have a Mazda 6i 2005 with the ATX transmission. Now I read about the special fluid that some dealers do not put into the car, and that it may kill the transmission. How easy is it to do a flush of the fluid? Any guides out there? I am willing to go out and buy the correct fluid just to go ahead and replace it and not worry about what is in there. Any way to know which fluid they put into it?

Thank you.

My 07 takes Mercon V Tranny fluid, my dealer sells Amsoil so that is what I have them use...
Anyone know for sure that the 05 uses Mercon V as well ?

Im going to check the dipstick after class, to see if which fluid it uses. But my question still stands.... is it difficult to drain the tranny?

Read this...... http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=108068

As far as draining, the tranny has a drain plug so its easy peasy.

Means Mercon V tranny fluid... any brand will work as long as it is MerconV...
I prefer AMSOIL synthetic, but it's not cheap...

I hate to rehash this but IT IS NOT MERCON V!!!!! Again, IT IS NOT MERCON V!!!! The 6i 5spd ATX is Mazda M-V ATF. It is a higher quality fluid and is a more demanding spec than Ford's Mercon-V. I have a thread in this forum of picturs of OEM Mazda M-V ATF. It is relatively cheap at my mazda dealer for $4.25/qt.

Again, IT IS NOT MERCON V. You will void a warranty if you use a non-approved ATF.

Does the 6S Jatco have a drain plug? I used an extractor last time because I couldn't find a drain plug. IIRC I pulled out 3qts and poured 3 back in. I have seached, but couldn't find the answer.

OEM Mazda M-V ATF...

What do you suppose the M-V stands for?

MazdaV is the official name of the spec. Ford does not use Mercon V for this transmission, either. The FNR5 5spd ATX transmission is also found in the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. Ford uses Motorcraft FNR5 ATF for these transmission, NOT Mercon-V. Motorcraft FNR5 ATF meets the MazdaV spec. Mercon-V does not.

Again, this is only for the FNR5 5spd ATX found in 2006+ model 6i's.
