howzit everyone. just picked up an 04 lapis blue hatchback last month from dealership. low miles and in excellent condition so i thought i got a good deal (11k). everything is stock, but the previous owner bought highest level package (black leather, color matched reverse sensors, electronic rustproofing). anyway, i did the basics so far (shark antenna, tint, yet to be installed led side marker from RPM). also been trying to get badgeless grille from mainland, but have had all sorts of problems with two companies (bot companies sent me the wrong type grille...super pissed but that's another story).

anyway, my question is regarding wheels. is it better/cheaper to buy mainland or go to a local motorsports shop? if it's better to buy locally, any recommendations on local shops that are good? if it's better to buy mainland, what sites are the most reliable?

thanks in advance to any responses and hope to see you all on the oahu roads....

do you know what youre looking for? 5spoke? 6 spoke? mesh style? 17's? 18's? etc...also are you looking for a rim and tire package? i have a couple places that you can check out and they probably get you a better price than if you went to revolutions or anything like that...autoland has cheap rim and tire packages but, personally i dont care for their selection. LMK and if you want, I can meet you somewhere and take you over to the shop that i went through. Its a little hard to find thats why. i bought my rims from this place called mod industries for a decent price. i dented 1 rim and im getting that one replaced by this guy Kai at leafracing. he was able to get me a cheaper price to replace the rim.

palani: so sorry i haven't been able to get that email over to you!! our computer was giving us choke probs but i should be able to do it tonight....plus my phone is broken so i cant text or make calls....i can only recieve...

my wheel preference changes every day. when i first got the 6, i wanted 5 spoke with rivets. currently i'm loving 8 - 10 spoke styles. as for size, if i was going to buy now, i was going with 17's since the 6 had relatively new tires on it. if i wait until tax refund time, i would move up to 18's.

and thanks for the offer to meet, but i have to wait to see how this whole furlough thing plays out. if not right now, i definately will pm you when i get my tax refund. but for now, i just want to get some sort of badgeless grille. i just got off the phone arguing for my full refund back for the wrong grill they sent me. i just wanted it over and done so we agreed to half the shipping cost i incurred sending the wrong grille back to them. i'll tell you which company screwed me over but i have to wait til after i get the refund back (don't worry, it's not any mazda6club affiliates companies)...

i saw your thread on your pothole experience. not sure if you are still trying to get compensated by the state, but good luck to ya....

check out ebay, lots of peeps are doing free shipping (which is what normal kills the deal you get anyway) and then Craig's List.

Got a buddy just bought a set of mogeti (sp?) light ver 1.0 for 700 for the set + free shipping (normally that rim goes for 600-700/rim) off of ebay.

Check out the other forums also, there are always peeps getting rid of wheels (Forums Hawaii, Hawaii Talks, Post Junkie etc)

If you're looking for JDM rims, you gotta check out Samson at Rivision Audio.
He carries AME, WORK Super Wheels, SSR, Traffic Star, Junction Produce........just to name a few.
Yes, they are "high-end" Japan rims, but if you got the $$$, he can hook you up.
Like Monkeyboy said.....FH, PostJunky, Craigs list are great places to find used rims.
I got a set of 18 inch WORK Varianza T1S in "Black Chrome" for sale......

Monkeyboy keeps tellin' me he wants um, but I still got them! LOL!
Good luck finding new rims.
Don't worry what anyone else might say about your wheel choice......the main thing is you're happy with what you got!
BTW, 2004 five door hatch FTW!!!

these are the wheels i'm kinda interested in at the moment. the first look like G37 copycats (sport edition se-14). the second are tenzo tenspecs. the last one is a nexo ts-10 (i saw this on a red 6 in the members wheel thread)...
