I have a 2005 Mazda6 3.0 v6. 110k miles. It started with my car dying while driving on the highway and would not start. So far the things I have done.
1. Changed all the coil packs and spark plugs. (Valve cover o rings leaked oil into the spark plugs) 2. Replaced all gasket on the valve cover. 3. Ran sea foam and engine flush in my engine. (I did this because I noticed a lot of slug inside both valve covers) 4. Changed oil and filter 3 times till oil was clean. Oil kept coming out black. I used 5w 30 (Oil is clear now) 5. Replaced the PCV valve. 6.. Cleaned the MAF sensor. I can get it to start up but idle is rough. The oil light is on also and I hear a slight knocking coming from the top of the engine. If I rev the engine up the oil light goes out and the knocking stops. If I shift to drive the oil light flashes, rpms drop to about 500 and then the engine dies. At this point I'm not sure what it can be and don't know if I should just take it to a mechanic now. Need some advice. Thanks. Last edited by Mani6; 11-19-2012 at 01:49 AM. Reason: Left out info |

Sounds like one of your timing chain tensioners may have failed.

CEL isn't on when I start it and it idles. Only the oil light when I shift to drive or reverse. When it dies all lights come on.

I was able to get a code reader. I noticed a few things. My car would shift fine when the motor was cold but once it came to operating temp it would die when I shifted to drive. Also I left the key in when it died and the CEL finally flashes. The code it gave was p0134. Took it to autozone as the definition was heated oxygen sensor HO2S.
