anybody have any info at all on removing the camshaft seal 04 mazda 6s V6 MTX.. mines gone and im replacing it, i just need some basic info on doing this job, i've searched and can't find anything, any help on this would be awesome... thanks!!

I haven't seen said Mazda6 cam in a while, so I'm gonna "shoot from the hip"...
I'm assuming you'll have to remove the water pump drive pulley (the big black one on the end of the cam). You can remove it with a harmonic balancer puller rented from your favorite parts store (I did). The pulleys are kinda flimsy, so you may end up ruining it (I did)... fortunately replacements aren't too expensive (less than $30, I think). The cam seal's housing is bolted to the head. Once you remove those two bolts it may slide off the end... I don't really remember. You can install the new drive pulley with a harmonic balancer installer rented from the same parts store. I tried rigging up something with a bolt/nut/washers and the pulley kept trying to go on crooked... it's worth renting the tool. |
