So two weeks ago right before going on vacation I noted that my car was struggling to start. I knew it was the battery slowly but surely not holding too much of a charge.
Anyhow I decided to get a new one because its been 4 1/2 years wihtout a battery replacement and that is a long time on a stock battery. The day I got up to go get the new battery the start car wouldnt start. Got the normal clicking you always get when there is a dead battery on start up. My neighbor came out with one of those portable battery charging things, and my car started up right away. However I got a CEL. I went got the battery did a couple of errands and eventually the CEL turned off after I started the car again (before the new battery). I changed the battery the next day. To this day the CEL hasnt come back, what do you guys think happened?

It's hard to tell what it was without an actual code. Did you ever have it scanned? Either way if you've been driving on it with no issues, it was probably just a fluke thing.

Just did a search for 'cel' and ran across this thread while looking for this exact issue. I had to boost my 2005 wagon this morning (from my wife's M3) because of a low battery. Positive terminal connector was really loose and I'm supposing that the battery just wasn't being charged correctly. The car jump started fine but I now have the CEL on. Its likely time for a new battery anyway and I'm going to ignore the CEL for now since it probably is because of the jump start (I hope).
