I while back I was asked to write up an install manual for teh AEM intake on my 2003 ATX M6. I did the install back over the winter and had an interesting story to go along with it. Anyways, I decided to go ahead and post it along with the pictures and the HOWTO on how to do everything.
http://www.mazda6club.com/myinstall.html (this is the story) http://www.mazda6club.com/installinstructions.html (Installation manual) Enjoy!

Hey - thanks for your write-up on the AEM CAI. I installed one on my 2003 6s ATX about six months ago, and I love it. I have had no CEL's at all, no problems. I notice the top-end kick, but I really enjoy the improved throttle response. There's no "lag" any more when you get on it. After removing and taking a look at the old intake contraption it's no wonder - the air had to fight to get to the intake! I recommend the AEM intake to everyone. My 5- and 7-year-old daughters love it too - they say my 6 sounds like a "race car".

I just installed the 21-483 CAI on my 2005 Mazda6s. You can see a picture of it at my cardomain page
The kit was made for 2003 & 2004 6s, but it worked fine in my 2005. There was one thing I had to do differently though. The supplied cap for the vacume hose nipple is way to small, so I plugged the hose with the cap instead for removing the hose as the instructions said. Also I went to my local AutoZone and bought a $10 chrome filter guard because the wheel well liner in the 2005 has some ventilation slots in it that I though water might splash back up on to the filter, so this would minimize the risk of sucking water.

I had to laugh when I read this posting. I have an 04' 6 and got an AEM cold air intake for it. Got the same instruction sheet has you show here...but the biggest difference is that I had to install it slightly backwards. Yeah backwards. I actually had to attach the MAF sensor and the smaller piping to the stock tubing on one end and then to the long pipe on the other end, then the filter was attached to that. Why? Well when I did it according to the instructions I had the same problem as the writer had. The check engine light came on, and at 60mph my car started to chugg along and barily stay running. Almost like it wasn't getting enough air. My buddy said to let it go for a few days maybe it would get used to it...it didn't. So we changed the configuration of it and it works fine!

is there a way of getting cold air into the stock intake without actually having a cold air intake, because i am leassing my car and realizing that i do not have enough power i mean im getting burned by my friends jettas! isnt there some type of wing or scoop that you can attach to direct air from the wheel well area up towards the intake?

I am jsut starting to mod my 2003 6s MTX, and the cold air intake is the first on the list. I have been trying to find out which one gives the most hp gain - the AEM, INJEN, or the K&N Typhoon. Any suggestions are appreciated. Also I have concerns about water getting into the CAI. It doesn't rain much here, but when it does, man it really does! And what is the deal with these short RAM intakes?

out of the 3 you mentioned it will be in this order injen = highest gains but most likely will make cel light go on AEM K&N = least gains but if you have money to burn get the CPE MAFci system $539.00 wich produces the highest gains search for more info on this you can also get the CPE customizer $250.00 to work with the injen intake wich will make gains higher and correct cel problems short rams are out ,they suck in too much hot air from the Engine wich decreases the increase in power you would get ,cold air intakes are farther away fromthe engine getting cooler air form the outside
