Took my 15' 6 in for Bluetooth module replacement today, did that, and they also did a software update. I wasn't aware of an update and haven't seen anything on this forum about it so I figured I would mention it to everyone. I don't know much about it other than it says 21 Software Update on my Invoice but initial impressions driving home from the dealer is that throttle response has significantly improved. I noticed it the second I put the car in drive leaving the dealer so I'm pretty happy about that. There's now minimal lag between pedal and engine power response.
What state are you in?? Did you call ahead for the issues with your infotainment system??
I'm experiencing some message download issues for about a month now.
Thanks
I'm in Connecticut. When I got an oil change a few months ago I mentioned to them that I was having problems with Bluetooth Connectivity and that it is almost always greyed out on my screen. I said this already knowing that there is a technical service bulletin out on it from Mazda that they recognize it's a problem. He said no problem we don't carry the Bluetooth module part so call for another appointment we'll order the part, it takes a few days for it to come in and we'll replace it. I'm not sure if a new Bluetooth Module will help with downloading messages but I've seen some threads on here mentioning that so you can search for it. Also you can search for Bluetooth Technical Service Bulletin, or TSB or something alike and you'll find a thread about it. In one of those threads someone posted a PDF of that TSB so if your dealer gives you a hard time then just download and print that and show it to the dealer.
In addition, not to get confused there was two things I mentioned in my initial post. One was that I got the Bluetooth module replaced and the other is a mechanical software update. I don't know the extent of the software update, whether that is related to the software for the head-unit which would help with your messaging issues. That's something you can definitely ask your dealer about. My initial impressions of the re-mapping is just that throttle response has definitely improved.
Took my car in for issues with my text messaging not downloading, dealer never mentioned any recall or replacement of said module. The one thing the guy at the desk said was that there was an update for Apple but not for Android. Not sure what he was talking about but will have to call a different dealership in town.
Is it better for me to mention the knowledge of replacing the module or see if they bring it up??
Do either of you have any TSB information (or maybe a work/part number) for the job performed? I just scheduled my next service, and the dealer didn't know anything about a PCM (ECU) update for the 2015 Mazda6.
They did say there's a software flash for the tire pressure monitoring system that's come out in the past few months, but I can't imagine that the two are related.
ECU updates may have different cut-in dates than the model years. Also, who's to say service departments are notified of flash updates, since it isn't necessary to make the change.
I would think you could request an updated flash, the tech should check your ECU # and your software version, and go online to some corporate service site to see if there is a newer version, download it and flash it. The whole process wouldn't take more than 15 minutes.
I plan on doing this when I take my car in to turn the rotors and get the new bluetooth module. We'll see what happens.
Turns out my dealer knew nothing either. Only 2 TSBs that seem to be out there for the 2015 models are the BT module and issues with 3rd gear on a manual box.
I just want to clarify a few things. This is not a TSB, at least not that I'm aware of so no TSB number to reference here and ask your dealer about.
When I had this done it was an early morning appt and I was in a rush after to get to work so I didn't ask much about the update. My invoice says 21 Software Update, 2579. I realize that is not much to go on but that's all I got. I didn't ask for the update, but the service manager knows I'm pretty anal about my car and maybe he just figured he would give it to me to make me happy because it was the second time I had to go in for the Blutooth replacement. The first time they didn't order the part.
I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm crazy busy with work, so, sorry. But I wanted to make it known at least, that there is an update out there and I think it's worth getting, it's a small improvement, but it's free.
Good luck with that TPMS update. I never had any problems with mine until they did the update. Now the TPMS warning comes on every the car is started. All of the tires are inflated to spec (including the spare) and the sending units are good.
I would love to know more about the ECU update mentioned before. My 2014 6 Grand Touring jerks and bucks like a bronco but the dealer insists nothing is wrong. The 1-2 shift happens way too early and the car bucks at around 1700 rpm.
Sometimes it can't seem to decide what gear it wants to be in when you step on the throttle so it just slugs along.
I took my 6 in today because the rotors are warped and asked them about updates. The service mgr told me all his techs run the vin for updates whenever a car comes in for servicing. I looked at him and said "do they really though". With "that" look on my face and he said they sure as hell better be doing it. With that being said my servic advisor ran my vin for updates right in front of me and all that came up was the tsps update...... Was kinda hoping some kinda cool ecu update would come up before i start doing my ovt tune but at least this will fix my tsps light from popping off all the time
I had a similar experience at the dealership. My August 2013 build date Mazda 6 did not need an ECU update per the service person who I trusted about as far as I could throw an anvil.
Yeah Its funny after all was said and done i asked three times in the two days i was there if they were going to do the tsps update and he kept saying yes. When i was leaving i looked at my work order which you can only decifer if you are very talented and special ... So i handed it to another service advisor and asked her where it said they did the update and she shook her head and said.... They didnt do it. OMFG!!!!
