Default P0661 VIS Solenoid

Hey guys,

Got a 2003 Mazda6 with the 2.3, approx 160k on the odometer.

Car has a DTC P0661, VIS Solenoid Circuit Low Input. I ohmed out the solenoid and found that it, unlike its cousin sitting next to it on the manifold, has an open circuit. So, I'm assuming that the sensor is faulty, wiring to sensor ohmed out fine.

The car has a rough idle, and under load the engine will sputter on and off until it revs up past 3k-3.5k on the tach. Could this sensor be causing the driveability issue? I called the dealer and they want 300 bucks for the part! Ack!

Thanks!

Justin

sounds like perhaps the vacuum line (i'd imagine between the solenoid and actuator) has a crack or popped off. double check that before putting much thought into other things.
