I have read a lot about the airbox mod, but I am still unclear about the VAD flapper. I am unclear if it has to be completely removed, or just unplugged. If the hose is unplugged will the flap stay open all the time, or would the airflow pull it closed again?

Also, has anyone done just the flapper and still noticed improvement? I am just looking for a small torque increase without making it too loud or anything.

Just follow the writeup as written. It doesn't make it too loud. It makes it slightly louder and gives it a deeper pitch, but only when you step on it. Idle is practically the same.

I also don't really know of any power increase from the airbox mod.

throttle response is definitely better but the power is still around the same. As said it only sounds loud after about 3500rpm depending on your car.

Also, it is in fact the flapper being removed that causes that deep sound. Remove everything else except the flapper and it won't be as loud. Or do as I did and duct all the holes to the front grill and tape off the flapper hole. Sounds almost stock but the cold air intake makes it far more preppy. I made a write-up on it.

From what I understand the flapper limits airflow at lower RPM's for emissions, so removing/disabling it should increase torque, am I right?

Yes, the quickest way to notice a response is to remove it entirely. To say that your torque will increase cannot be justified. The car will definitely respond to the initial throttle faster but I believe it is yet to be dyno proven.

The reason I ducted mine was to eliminate heat soak which is what helped me get the fastest 1/4 mile time for a non-turbo 6i on this forum (but then again I have a JDM 6 so it is not right to compare)
