ok so i was looking at the vtcs system and the switch that turns the flaps over a certain rpm. now most people take about the intake mani and take out the flaps. but why not just unhook the yellow pin on the shaft from that little motor thing and tie it down so the flaps stay open permanently? any opnions?

that was our OG mod back in '03 actually....nothing new. there's no reason to do it though, as we weren't sure what the system did, we just wanted more air. the problem (or lack of problem) is when the car is warm, it's open anyhow, so there is no difference. I would only ensure it stayed open on cold start, and in all reality, you WANT that as it makes cold idle A LOT smoother.

then we started pulling it out and taking off the flaps....no more obstruction from them at all now!!

...then we thought hey, the rod is still blocking some air...why not just pull it!

......then i realized who cares unless you have tuning

I just took off my mani to test out the PCV valve and wow, other than non-engine work, this was a lot harder than changing all 4 springs and shocks on my car! So any real world improvement after all of this time MrTea? Regrets?
