It's the exhaust doughnut squeaking. There's a TSB but it's easier just to drive the ever-living-piss out of it and it goes away after a while.

Brandini,

How long did you have to drive it before the sound went away? i have an 08 6i with the same probelm , just started this week. I was just getting ready to order the parts from rock auto, but I wasn't looking forward to laying on my back in the driveway this weekend.

And shifting gears here...
I live in Virgina also and was curious if you got any grief from the state inspection guy for having the CAI? I am thinking of getting one but dont really want to deal with CEL's and grumpy inspection guys.

Thanks,

Jim

i've had the car for 3 years and the sound has not gone away. i've had the doughnuts replaced multiple times, even the catalytic converter and exhaust manifold replaced, all of which only fixed it temporarily before the noise came back.

i have no clue, but in terms of what Brandini said, there are parts that just need to be overheated to fix the issue. this doesn't mean drive it for a year, this means drive it HARD and overheat the crap out of it. do some hard autocrosses, track day or just find a spot to beat the snot out of the car.

keep in mind, saying it never goes away...but you change it out a few times means you always have a new/fresh gasket that has not life on it.

What CEL? What grief? A CAI isn't illegal, esp if it's a factory part installed at the dealer. They wouldn't install my LED smoked corners though... weird.

I have done an autocross and have been to the Tail of the Dragon for a weekend and THAT WILL make you heat up your car. I also drive with the mazda club relatively often and those mountain drive you will push your car. www.thecvmc.com
