i absolutely hate how hot the duratec 2.3 runs. past about 180 the motor runs like crap and bogs down. now i know Twowheelin from Cordova makes a little chip thing that plugs into the fan relay that makes the fans trigger sooner to keep the motor at 180. but could i make my own? i want to use a toggle switch and wire the switch so i can make the fans come on when ever i want. can i just connect the switch to the relay like twowheelin does with the product that he sells?

From the way the engine is designed, I would never suggest running your car at around 200. This engine loses power at around 205 and I doubt you are going to get anything more from it unless you modify the engine. Also consider that at 180 the fan won't make much difference, I would see it as more of a protective procedure to maintain the engine post-lunatic behaviour.

You can easily make a fan toggle switch yourself. I wouldn't know how to do it on our car but I would recommend doing this without buying the chip that way you have full control.

Also, please refrain from putting unnecessary amounts of question marks or exclamation marks in all your thread titles. There are forum rules relating to such a thing.

i dont think you understood, TwoWheelin makes a device that plugs into the fan relay that triggers the radiator fans at 180 degrees so that the motor doesnt get above 180. what i was saying was that instead of paying 25 dollars for the unit he sells why not just make my own using a toggle switch to turn on the fans whenever i wanted to.

sorry you didn't specify degrees in the first post. I assumed the worst. If you know the car well enough to know when it is heating up too much then just go ahead and make your own switch. Like i said before, more control.

lower temp thermostat costs more money and its more difficult to replace on our cars. my friends has a switch for his fans in his car and it works better than a lower temp thermostat

Thermostats are extremely easy to replace; just messy.

Next time I change my radiator fluid I'll probably replace the thermostat.

It's not that it's a pain, fact is that it is not just the thermostat that needs to be replaced. It is joined to some piece of plastic, so the whole thing needs to be swapped.
