Hi everyone, Well 7 weeks ago, my mazda6 was involved in an accident. I finally got it back yesterday, despite a few problems with the bonnet not siting flush at the front and the grill not clipping in so i can lift it up at the front, i have an issue there appears to be a noise, which i can only possibly think of as maybe being a belt of some sort maybe, that occurs as i get near 2000rpm in all gears, only happens say between 1800-2200 and then goes, but is consistant. i have requested the guys to come back and get it but the bodyshop that repaired my car are vaxhuall , i had no choice as this is what my insurance chose. However i would like to be able to tell them as best i can before they go and fluff up anything else. May or may not be a belt, but if any otehr diesil users have heard this may be helpful for descriptions on the problem to be fixed.
Also, Im not sure whether its normal or not, but seeing as i have been driving this crappy hire car, Corsa 1.4 Club for 7 weeks. i got back in my mazda 6 and the steering is very stiff when going slow, like pulling in and out of parking bays and things. Its fine when driving faster ie 15-20mph+ but im not sure it should be that stiff, i have stock 16inch wheels 205 55 16s on so... is this s problem with my power steering, almost feels like the power steering isnt working at these slow speeds. Anyways guys, if any one can shed some light on these issues would be appreciated. I hope this is in the right area of the forum. Sorry if it isnt. Marlon |

I don't know about your belt noise, but the stiff steering is normal - most small cars have over-assisted steering to make city driving easy, it's why they lack feel on decent roads. The 6 is the other way round, in the same way that I normally stall once or twice after a few days driving other cars, because the 6 has quite direct clutch engagement compared to the small Renault my usual garage lends me. You should get used to a proper car again in no time

Mined had a tinny bussing noise at 1800rpm for a couple of years now - any gear. It only does it when driving so you can not sit on the drive and investige. I try to ignor it!

Okay so i am used to the steering now, was just really werid and stiff to start off with. but yeah i am back to loving my 6
they managed to align the bonnet correct in the end, and clipped the grill down properly.I still have the noise tho, i worked it out it is around 18mph in second gear, around 30 in third and 40 in forth gear, so as you can imagine if you sitting at speed limit through town roads with windows down it is quite audible. annoying also. im having a service done soon so will get them to have a listen to it, or see if they notice it, which if i leave em to their own accord i doubt they will. Nevermind. Thanks guys for replying to me. Not sure how many diesel 6 owners are in the UK these days. |

Mine was making a tinny noise trough 2000rpm. I narrowed it down to the EGR valve. If you disconnect the vacuum pipe from the EGR valve then plug the pipe with a bolt see if the noise is still there. The problem I found is that the MAF sensor controls the EGR via the ecu and it might be this that is to blame, causeing the valve to move when it shouldn’t. I replace the MAF and allot of the associated problems went away (low down hesitation, hunting through the revs at idle) and to a large degree the tinny noise went as well. But every so often it still comes back. Might just disconnect the egr altogether.
