Hi everyone, I'm new to this place ( didn't have a clue such a place existed actually ) and wanted to come online to speak to other 6 users and see if anyone has had a similar problem to my Mazda.
My Mazda 6 is a 2.0 TS model ( Diesel ) and is a 54 plate ( which for those outside the UK means it's just turned 3 years old ). I got it second hand and have had it for about 15 months now. I do like the car, but things seem to go wrong with it - though I think this is mainly down to wear and tear, due to the 75,000 miles on the clock, and also the fact that the previous owner didn't service it properly ( yes, I know I should have checked ). Anyways, since I got the car its had one very annoying fault. When it's cold, as it's getting now, the engine just dies when the revs get too low. You restart the car, and yes, it works fine. When the engine warms up, its no bother, it ticks over nicely - it's just when it's cold. Has anyone experienced this before? All help is welcome ![]() Thanks |

Huh ... didn't know it came in diesel. In any case, are you letting the car warm up a bit, or are you pulling out as soon as your start the ignition? I always go by the rule of thumb of letting the car warm up until it's RPMs go down to the 1K level. Not sure if it's doing the same for you.
Welcome to the club, too. Contribute well, friend!

Hi, I haven't had this particular problem (but have had plenty of others like yourself). A lot of my engine related stuff has now been fixed by it's 75k mile service, which includes the cambelt fuel filter etc. Have you had yours done yet? It's not what you would call a cheap service, but they do replace a lot of stuff which potentially is long overdue, because of the previous owner' neglect. What you don't want it to be is anything major like the fuel pump, because they do cost a lot of money. Don't forget there are a lot of companies who will sell you a warranty if your car has done less than 100k, but they might want to see your service history, you would just have to see.... Regards, |

Also looks like you're not the only one with this problem... Check out Twisty's latest news.

Hi there, also new to this forum and just browsing through after replying to a similar thread in the newbie section. I'm in UK I have a recently acquired 04 mazda 6 TS2 diesel 56k on the clock with exactly the same problem, mine starts first time but if cold stalls out at first couple of junctions until warmed up. Problem is exacerbated by operation of the heater. I dont want to be the prophet of doom but took my car to the mazda dealer today who told me that "MDS test car & found fuel pump reading out of spec. Fuel pump removal & overhaul required. Probable cost of repair £705 inc". There's no way I'm paying that 2 weeks before christmas!! I also found a similar post on the '5th gear' website (uk TV programme website) under the mazda6 section where the chap was told to get his fuel pump reconditioned by the mazda dealer but got it repaired elsewhere at a fraction of the cost??? http://fifthgear.five.tv/jsp/5gmain.jsp?ln...ption=Mazda%206 I'm just putting up with it at the minute but would be interested to know what the outcome with yours was, or any alternatives to this expensive dealer overhaul option! Cheers |

( Yep...got the same problem. I've had the 2.0 diesel from new (04plate) and done 140,000 miles. All the symptoms as described under various headings and only in the cold. £1K for the pump to be recon at Clevedon Mazda near Bristol. It's a big ask but got to be done.Graham |

Hi chaps, im another one of those people who's mazda 6 cuts out on the first couple junctions when cold. It’s very annoying and can be very dangerous if you’re not alert, ie just got out of bed.
Fuel pump appears to be the problem but as stated in the threads above, it’s very very expensive. My Mazda has 89k on the clock and is an 04 plate. It’s got a full service history but instead of going to Mazda to get the cam belt plus service done I visited my local mechanic and he charged me £220 for the lot. He did say that he cannot see why so many mechanics charge the earth for a cam belt change when in fact it only takes 2 hours to do and the cam belt itself is very cheap. You may say to cheap but this mechanic is highly recommended locally to me (Coventry) and because he doesn’t charge a lot, he is always fully booked up. Why charge the earth when you have people queuing down he road to get in, makes perfect business sense AndyP (Ps check out my OIL LEAK thread if you can help it would be great)
