Mazda 6 Estate 2.0Lit Diesel (143PS)
12 months old 11,000 miles on the clock, first Service at Main Dealers - £354.24 Don’t want to even think about a 25,000-mile service next year with all the extra filters, replacement brake fluid & coolant etc. I was a full time mechanic so you understand how the the cost has got to me? What service charges are you guys paying to maintain the 3-year warranty? Discovale |

for the 5 litres I think, but the vast majority of the charge you're incurring is labour. It all depends on where you live in the country to how much you pay. Holdcroft's in Stoke is my local dealer, and for the £75k service it's a shocking £680 (inc cambelt change), and I don't have the fancy oil in my 52 reg pre-facelift 6! A dealer in Stockport is £740, but typically the price is around £650 in the Midlands. Interestingly though, I started phoning further afield, and I can get the same service done in South Wales (Carmarthen) for £498, now that's still expensive, but a damn sight cheaper than up here. (Cornwall is cheap too by the way). The guy at the dealer says he's not trying to attract customers from all over the country to his dealership, but inevitably he's doing that because of the high labour rates everywhere else. So I'm taking mine to him anyway next month. He says the next service after that for me (the minor one like you've about to have) is about £115 using standard Mazda oil. You might think it's crazy, travelling all this way for just a service, but at worst it's a great bargaining tool with your local dealer to drop their prices a few percent. The dealers I've phoned in the Midlands won't match their prices to the cheapest, but they are willing to offer a discount from their list price to get your business. At best if you're willing to travel, you can shop around and save yourself a few £s, and have a nice day out in the process. Where about's are you from? The answer to your question by the way is (according to my service history by the previous owner at Perry's of Huddersfield): 1st Service - 12,500 miles = £163.10 (July 2003) 2nd Service - 25,000 miles = £235.35 (May 2004) 3rd Service - 37,500 miles = £245.32 (Feb 2005) Total £643.77. That's a lot cheaper than you're being quoted, but again add £40 per service I guess for the difference in oil type. Thanks, Roland |

I was in my local dealer (Stockport) and spotted the first service was down as £340 and is more expensive than all the others apart from 75k. So I asked why...
His answer was basically (might get some details wrong): - There was a batch of cars that went out where the injectors have a problem and need checking. They cannot identify which cars got the dodge parts hence the checks. - The £340 is the maximum charge and it's typically only £250 for most (still high) The question I didn't ask is why might we pay for a mistake/problem caused by Mazda. But it seems they are charging the owner! As for "All the revised shape 6 diesels take a special oil with particulate something or others in them" If you're referring to special "oil" because of the DPF.... how come others services a lot cheaper. Oil changed at each. |
