Hello there. Another diesel driver here. I notice that no one seems to have posted here for a while so just wonder if you are still here. I have got a 136sport on a 52 plate and to spice things up I got a tuning box. the only problem i have is that if I move the jumper pin anywhere other than the lowest setting it throws up the cel and the engine cuts out. do you guys know of anything that could cause this. I am taking it on dyno day in a couple of weeks and will see if when the box is fitted and on the lowest setting whether there is actually any power gains but it does not feel like it so i shall see. the only thing I dont like about the engine really is the fact it seems to have no power below 1500rpm which is a pain when pulling away out of 30 limits in 4th or 5th gear other than that i cant fault the car. hope to here from someone soon it cant just be me here on my own lol

Welcome... No, it's not just you around, I think there might be 2 or 3 other diesel owners... Yes, the turbo lag/general lack of torque below 1500rpm is a pain - even the best tuning boxes don't really fix it. I think our existing turbo is biased more towards mid/high range power, so just does nothing at low rpm. Which model tuning box do you have? I've had very good results so far with a Tunit - very expensive, but saves a decent amount of fuel and does make the engine a little bit smoother. Not huge power gains, but then again anyone wanting serious performance probably wouldn't buy a 2L diesel!

ahh I am not alone.
Its a company called dieseltuner (www.dieseltuner.co.uk if you want to have a read) it was about £100 cheaper than the tunit and being a tight git I went for it. Have been in touch with them and they dont know why it does it so i told them about going to dyno day and will get in touch with them when I get the results back. meanwhile i have done the airbox mod but left the tuba on and drilled out the hole just above the intercooler to pull in some cooler air from there also blanked off the egr valve and fitted a K&N panel filter. she seems to go alot better now even in the 28deg heat we have been getting I shall see what the dyno results say Like you say though if i wanted a drag racer I would not have got a diesel again it was my tight ways that made me get it and its proving to be quite frugal on the fuel too. well frugal enough for me not to moan anyway.

welcome. Glad to see more from the other side of the pond.
Just a question for you... I watch Top Gear and they have the topgear surveys. They look for cars that are like a 155-190 on an 05 plate or something like that. Can you explain how the plating system works? Here in the states you are just assigned a random plate number.

we now have two plate changes a year. one in march and one in september and they are like this
not going to put my plate up but say it was CX55 CVB The CX is the area code (C for cymru which is welsh for wales and X is the area that I live in) 55 means its registered after september 2005 but before march 2006 if it was registered before september it would be CX05 CVB so march 2005 to sept 2005 is 05 then sept 05 to march 06 is 55 then march 06 to sept 06 is 06. sept 06 to march 07 will be 56 and so on the last three letters of CX05 CVB are just random letters that are assigned to that plate It started in sept 2001 so the first plates were 51 and it has gone on since then. hope that helps its pretty hard to explain Do your plates get assigned to you or the car I thought you get assigned a plate and just swap it from car to car. cant get over the fact its only 10:59am over there so you guys must still be in work. I finished about 4hrs ago and am now sipping wine and enjoying the last few hours of sunshine. Its been pretty hot (for us) the last few weeks averaging about 28deg but hitting mid thirtys sometimes thats probably cool for you lot.

Lol i love how you guys do celcius.
Ya here in ohio (middle of the U.S.) its been 90-96F. I learned the equation to convert that stuff over from degrees to celcius, but i forgot =X Any ways thats cool. O and as for the plates go. You can be assigned a plate or pay $50 for a custom plate that can say anything with up to 7 letters. EX: 2fast4u Race Me MikeyD ect. or they can give u a plate which is like $5. that looks something like this. Ex: CA82ND or RLA 3298 < who knows what the letters/ numbers stand for, i believe its just random.

yay not only are from england to . you have a diesel. good lad.
when i got my tunnit they set it to setting 5 of 9 gains where slight, so i have put it up to 7 no. it is a vast improvement. need to r/road it soon thou as i want to get the power figures as the chip is turned up.
